--Read 180 is a remedial reading program. It is used to strengthen students reading levels. It is broken into three parts; Whole Group, Rotations (Small Group, Independent Reading from the Read 180 library, and Instructional Software), and Wrap-up. Each part is very important and works off each other in order to build upon the student’s skills. It is very important for students to work their hardest in each part in order to succeed in class.
--Weekly Progress Reports will be given out every Thursday, starting on January 19th. The progress report will have their current grade as well as how they are performing with their Behavior, Classwork, Homework, Quizzes / Tests / Projects, and Participation. Progress Reports will need to be signed and returned the next day.
--We visit the Media Center every two weeks, starting on Thursday, January 12th. Students must keep a reading log and read 100 or more pages every week. The reading log must be signed every week for a Homework grade.
--Students third book report will be due Wednesday, February 8th. It will be completed on a book they check out from the library on January 12th. The book must be a fiction book on or around their reading level. All books must be approved by the teacher before they are checked out. (In certain cases, students may bring a book from home or the public library, but these needs to be cleared with Mr. Chauncey before it is done. The book report we count as 9 grades (3 Classwork / 3 Homework / 3 Project).
--If a student fails a major assignment (tests, projects, etc.), they must return the graded assignment signed by the parent/guardian.
--Every week, students will be asked to complete a Language Arts Challenge through this blog. Students have one week (Friday-Friday) to complete the challenge. If a student does not have access to the internet at home, they may complete it after our Closing activity provided they completed all their work in class that day and if there is time for them to do so, or they may make arrangements to come before or after school. Students will need to make arrangements the day before in order to stay before or after school. I am available every morning starting at 7:45AM and most afternoons (except for Thursday) until around 4:15PM. If a student plans to stay afterschool, they will need to make sure they have a ride available no later than 4:15PM. It does not take much time to complete the challenges, as many are only a few questions long. This will be counted as a homework grade.
