Students, parents invited to Open House on Aug. 4

from Griffin Daily News

The Griffin-Spalding County School System will hold its annual Open House on Thursday, Aug. 4, from 3 to 7 p.m. at all of its 18 schools in preparation for the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year on Aug. 8.

Attendance is voluntary and registration is not required, but parents should bring a pen and paper for taking notes as well as appropriate documents if they intend to register their child that day, said Elizabeth Benz, communications specialist with the school system.

During Open House, parents can meet teachers and administrators, learn about school bus routes and school attendance zones, review student information and update contact phone numbers, go over medication needs of their child with the school nurse and create an Infinite Campus account on school computers that will later allow them to view their child’s grades online.

Kennedy Road Middle adopts school uniforms

Kennedy Road Middle adopts school uniforms
by Thomas Hoefer
from the Griffin Daily News

With the beginning of the upcoming school year, which starts Aug. 8, Kennedy Road Middle School will take its current dress code a step further and implement school uniforms.

Uniforms will consist of khaki pants or shorts for boys and khaki skirts, dresses, jumpers or shorts for girls. They will also come with burgundy, gray or white polo shirts for both genders.

Although school uniforms could become a requirement in the future, according to Principal Brenda Ford, they are not mandatory in the 2011-12 school year. However, parents who don’t want their children to participate must fill out a uniform opt-out form, sent to them on the first day of school.
